Our family LOVES breakfast, and being from the south, it’s no surprise we love warm fluffy biscuits. This recipe is pretty much foolproof if you follow the recipe and methods. You can also catch a video version over on my Youtube Channel as well.
You will need self-rising flour, baking soda, a stick of butter, and either milk or buttermilk. As far as method, this recipe is most successful using my KitchenAid stand mixer. Begin by preheating your oven to 450 degrees.
The first step is to cut the cold butter into tiny squares. I do this by cutting my butter in strips lengthwise then cutting width-wise after. When you do this it creates the perfect little squares.
Place the 2 cups of self-rising flour in the mixer with the paddle attachment and the 1/4 tsp baking soda. Mix just long enough for the flour and baking soda to combine. Next, add the cubes of butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse flour. At this point, you will add 1 cup of milk, watch this to make sure your mixture doesn’t end up too wet. You want the dough to be a somewhat sticky texture.
Turn the dough out onto a flour surface and either press or roll the dough out to about 1/2 or 1/3 inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut biscuits into the desired size then place in a greased iron skillet. Place in the oven for 8-10 minutes (not quite done, but close). At this point put a little more butter on the tops and pop back into the oven for 3-5 more minutes or until lightly golden on top.
Let them cool for 5 minutes and enjoy!
EASY 4-Ingredient Fluffy Biscuits
Ingredients
- 2 cups Self-rising flour (King Arthur is my favorite)
- 1/4 tsp Baking soda
- 1/2 cup Cold butter cut into cubes
- 1 cup Milk or Buttermilk
Instructions
- Add flour and baking soda to mixing bowl.
- Next, add cubes of butter and mix with a paddle attachment or a spatula if you are mixing by hand. Mix until it resembles coarse flour.
- Add milk or buttermilk until mixture resembles sticky dough that is still somewhat firm and pliable (softer and stickier than bread dough).
- DO NOT OVERWORK DOUGH!
- Turn out the dough onto a floured surface and either press or roll the dough to 1/2 inch or 1/3 inch thickness. Cut the dough into biscuits with a biscuit cutter or drinking glass.
- Use butter to grease an iron skill or cake pan and place the biscuits it. Pop the ban into the oven for 8-10 minutes until almost done.
- Pull skillet out and place a little bit of butter on the tops of each of the biscuits. Put back into the oven for another 3-5 minutes or until the tops of the biscuits are lightly golden. Let them cool for 5 minutes and enjoy!
